Modern Mediterranean: A Dream Bathroom Under Budget

A Dream Bathroom Under Budget

The Mediterranean style encompasses inspiration from the many eclectic countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Exposed stone, statement tile work, cool color palettes, and a less-is-more look are just a few of the many ways you can bring this style into your home. Although typically found in warmer-climate states like California, Alpha to Omega brought this trend to Michigan in our most recent residential remodel. Our client contributed to the blog below with her inspiration for the bathroom and how she kept it budget-friendly.

A Mediterranean Makeover

It all started with the wallpaper. We wanted to make the most of the Spanish charm our new house exuded. The master bed and bath were nonexistent until A2O flipped the garage for us. With a completely blank canvas, we had the chance to truly create the modern-Mediterranean suite of our dreams. My first thought was to look at a Spanish tile. Eventually, we found this wallpaper from Wall Quest which had a great Mediterranean look and was more cost-effective than tile. Bonus, this wallpaper has a great metallic finish on the gold.

Coastal Cabinets

The next thing that fell into place was the cabinets. Here, we got to bring in some color. Keeping in mind “…palettes that reflect the natural environment, from the blue-greens of the ocean to the yellows and golden tones of the sun”. We knew that we wanted to bring in more of that great blue that is in the wallpaper but doing a dark blue wall was going to be too much for the small space. Fortunately, CNC Cabinetry offers a beautiful blue cabinet finish that we went with for the vanity. It’s also a rule of thumb when going for a Mediterranean look that the more white, the better! This marble countertop from Wilsonart brought the whole vision together.

There were some great new products out that we got to use on this project that helped us keep the project within budget while still achieving a fantastic result. Willson Art wet walls allowed us to create the look of a marble wall at a fraction of the price. It is also much faster to install than a traditional tile shower wall. We also used this stone finish behind the bathtub. On the floors, we used Carrara Gris porcelain tile in place of marble for a more durable and cost-effective option.

The details really make it – our cabinet hardware is from Anthropology and the bronze shower fixtures from Delta. We couldn’t have made this dreamy oasis come to fruition without Alpha to Omega. Contact their team for custom home renovations and interior design projects!
